Tri-County Dental Society: A Brief History
In 1901, three visionary dentists—Dr. J. W. Neblett, Dr. Julias Ronner, and Dr. C.P. Hebert—held the inaugural meeting of what would later become the Tri-County Dental Society. Their purpose? To share professional knowledge—an uncommon practice at the time. Dr. Neblett championed this idea, emphasizing its benefit for both dental practitioners and patients. The initial success led to four more meetings, each adding new members.
- 1902: Informal gatherings continued, and membership was offered to dentists in Riverside, San Bernardino, and parts of Los Angeles Counties. The name “Tri-County Dental Society” was adopted.
- 1908: Tri-County Dental Society was officially formed, with annual dues set at $6.00.
- 1910: Membership grew to fourteen regular members. Tri-County Dental Society became affiliated with the Southern California Dental Association.
- 1913: Twenty-three member dentists were on the roster.
- 1917: Membership increased to 30 member dentists.
- 1946-1947: A surge in membership brought the total to 150.
- 1947: Bylaws were updated, and the society was incorporated.
- 2008: Tri-County became the third largest chartered component of the California Dental Association, covering a vast geographic area with defined boundaries.
- As of April 30, 2024: Tri-County Dental Society has 1,928 members. Two dental schools operate within the component with 773 dental students in total that the society supports in various capacities.
