The Position
We are seeking full-time Registered Dental Assistants. Our ideal candidate has a minimum of one years experience as an RDA beyond program completion.

SUMMARY

Assists dentist during examination and treatment to include restorative, prosthodontic, endodontic, pedodontics, oral surgery and orthodontic procedures as permitted by California Dental Board Licensure under the supervision of a licensed dentist.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The information in this job description indicates the general nature and level of work performed. 1. Complies with CDC, CALOSHA and all established dental department policies and procedures, safety, and infection control standards.

2. Participates in educational development activities to maintain current RDA license and employment status.

3. Prepares patients and facilitates dental care.

4. Prepares and sets up dental operatory for procedures with instruments and materials.

5. Takes and records medical and dental histories and vital signs of patient.

6. Exposes diagnostic dental x-rays.

7. Assists the dentist during procedures, keeps the oral operating area clear, supplies instruments, materials, and medications.

8. Assists the dentists with patient management by contributing to the patient’s comfort and reassurance.

9. Assists inpatient education including oral hygiene, plaque control techniques and provides patients with appropriate dentifrices.

10. Breaks down, cleans, and maintains the dental operatory in between patient care according to dental department policy and procedure.

11. Sterilizes, disinfects, processes, and maintains dental instruments in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions for use (IFU).

12. Performs maintenance on all back office dental equipment according to manufacturer’s instructions.

13. Takes preliminary impressions for study casts and provisional restorations.

14. Performs additional patient procedures under a dentist’s supervision as permitted by California RDA licensure.

15. Pours and trims casts. Cleans and polishes removable appliances and fabricates temporary restorations.

16. Ensures that dental lab orders are sent out with accurate paperwork and are checked in according to dental lab policy when returned.

17. Checks and completes all assigned back-office tasks.

18. Adheres to back-office priority flows daily.

19. Rotates to Santa Ysabel as needed.

20. Maintains patient confidentiality.

21. Serves as a resource to front desk personnel by answering questions regarding scheduling and treatment plans.

22. Contributes to the coordination of back-office patient flow amongst all dental providers through effective and professional verbal communication.

23. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned including serving as a backup to cover multiple positions within the Dental Department.

24. Position may be reassigned during activation of EOP.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Minimum high school diploma or GED and graduate of Dental (RDA) Assisting program.
Minimum of one (1) years experience as RDA beyond program completion.
Prefer 3+ years of RDA experience.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, MEMBERSHIPS AND REGULATIONS

Current RDA, Sealant certification, Coronal Polishing certificate and Dental Radiation License required.
Current BLS certification or attainment within 6 months of hire.
Applicants must successfully pass a pre-employment physical exam, tuberculin skin test or x-ray and urine drug screen test (to include marijuana).
Health must be adequate to perform all duties of the position.
Must pass criminal background check.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Competence in the operation of standard dental equipment.
Proficient in technological skills with; Microsoft Office 360, Word, Excel, Power point, E-mail and Calendar, Microsoft TEAMS, Share Point, EPIC MyChart, Paycom, Relias Training and Policy Tech systems.
Basic knowledge and skills through work experience with general dentistry procedures.
Knowledge of OSHA blood-borne pathogen standards and adhere to safety rules and professional standards.
Knowledge of appropriate COVID-19 safety protocols.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, clinic staff, and the public.
Effective and professional verbal communication skills.
Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents.

Job Title: Registered Dental Assistant

Reports To: RDA Supervisor

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Job Function: Clinical

Classification: Temporary, On-Call

Schedule: Fill in as needed; Monday-Friday (8-hour shift between 8:00am-6:30pm)

Location: Onsite

SUMMARY:
This position will be part of an on-call pool of RDAs who will fill in when our full time RDAs are out sick, or on PTO or leave of absence.  Responsible for assisting dentist during examination and treatment to include general dentistry, surgery, prosthodontics, endodontics, pedodontics and orthodontics by performing the following duties.

1.    Responsible for maintaining current status to meet CDC and CALOSHA requirements.
2.    Participates in educational development activities to maintain current license and employment status.
3.    Prepares patients, sterilizes and disinfects instruments, sets up instrument trays, and prepares materials.
4.    Takes and records medical and dental histories and vital signs of patient.
5.    Exposes diagnostic dental x-rays.
6.    Assists the dentist during procedures, keeps the oral operating area clear, supplies instruments, materials and medications.
7.    Assists the dentists with patient management by contributing to the patient’s comfort and reassurance.
8.    Instructs patients in oral hygiene and plaque control programs.
9.    Cleans and maintains the operatory in between patients.
10.    Sterilizes and maintains dental instruments, equipment, and supplies according to IHC protocol.
11.    Takes preliminary impressions for study casts and occlusal registrations for mounting study casts.
12.    Performs additional patient procedures under a dentist’s supervision as permitted by California RDA licensure.
13.    Pours, trims, and polishes study casts, fabricates custom impression trays from preliminary impressions, cleans and polishes removable appliances, and fabricates temporary restorations.
14.    Ensures that dental lab orders are picked up with accurate paperwork. 
15.    Assists in departmental weekly, monthly, quarterly equipment maintenance. 
16.    Checks for any assigned duties daily.
17.    Rotates to Santa Ysabel as needed. 
18.    Maintains patient confidentiality.
19.    Serves as a resource to front desk personnel by answering questions regarding scheduling and treatment plans.
20.    Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned including serving as a backup to cover multiple positions within the Dental Department.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES  
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

TRAVEL & DRIVING REQUIREMENTS
Travel and driving are not required for this position.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of one (1) years experience as RDA beyond program completion required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of RDA experience preferred.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGULATIONS

  • Current RDA and Coronal Polishing certificate and Radiation License required.
  • A valid California driver’s license and a good driving record will be required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Current CPR (BLS Provider) certification or attain within 6 months of hire.
  • Applicants must successfully pass a pre-employment physical exam, tuberculin skin test or x-ray and urine drug screen test (to include marijuana).

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Electronic health records software (EPIC MyChart/QSI preferred).
  • Utilization of Paycom, Paycom Learning, and PolicyTech systems.

Indian Preference shall be given in accordance with IHC’s Policies and Procedures.
